Marathon Season Is Here: Why Novice Athletes Need Nutrition Support
Marathon season is in full swing, HYROX events are booming, and more Australians than ever are lacing up for an endurance challenge. We love to see it!
But here's the thing, while most people will happily hand invest in a training plan, many don't think about how they should actually be fuelling it.
That gap is where things start to go wrong.
Thanks to "protein maxxing" taking over social media, many novice athletes are hyper-focused on protein, while quietly neglecting the nutrient that actually fuels endurance performance: carbohydrate.
Under-fuelling on energy and carbs can show up as:
Fatigue that never really lifts
Recovery that takes longer than it should
More illness and injury
Training performance going backwards, not forwards
Struggling to hit your event goals
Most people assume this is just what training feels like. It's not. More often, it's a sign you're under-fuelled.

Endurance Nutrition Isn't One Size Fits All

Marathon runners, HYROX competitors and other endurance athletes have nutrition needs that look nothing like general population guidelines.
If you're training for longer than 60 minutes at a time, carbohydrate before, and usually during, your session is essential for keeping glycogen stores topped up, supporting performance and helping you recover properly. A nutrition strategy built around you, specifically, can make a genuine difference to how you perform and how much you actually enjoy the training.
What About Supplements?
Protein powders, creatine, BCAAs, fish oil, the supplement aisle has never been more crowded, and a lot of novice athletes are stocking up before they've asked the more useful questions:

Am I actually meeting my needs through food first?
Are there medical conditions or medications I need to factor in?
Is there real evidence this supplement will move the needle on my performance?
For most athletes, sorting out everyday nutrition delivers far more benefit than another tub of powder ever will.
Fuel the Training, Not Just the Finish Line
Good nutrition isn't just about crossing the finish line, it's what lets you train safely, recover properly, and actually enjoy the process!
If you're training for a marathon or HYROX event and want a nutrition plan built around your training load, goals and life, get in touch, we'd love to help you fuel it properly!
